Green School Education
In February 2008, MACADEMY students presented Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke with a proposal for “Green School Education” for Grades K – 12. This document would provide an opportunity for students to become more aware of global warming, its effects and methods for its prevention and reduction.
This proposal was introduced in the 110th Congress, it became bill H.R. 5902. On April 1st, 2009, students returned to Congress and had a round table discussion with Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke concerning the re- introduction of the bill H.R. 5902 in the 11th Congress. The Congresswoman advised us to expand our idea and include the Local, National and International communities. Since our meeting, we have connected with Sister Borgia Elementary School in the international arena and have successfully promoted and implemented a “Green School Education” in St. Maarten in September of 2009.
